LITCI2113 TEXTUAL SELVES: NARRATIVE AND IDENTITY
This course examines representations of identity, subjectivity and 'difference' in a range of contemporary literature and film texts. In addition to exploring the relationship between genre, narrative form and representations of subjectivity, the course considers some of the many factors which can influence the formation and social construction of identity such as race, religion/belief, tradition, technology, gender, sexuality, community and place. Students will be introduced to relevant theoretical and philosophical approaches to subjectivity such as liberal humanism, post-structuralism and postcolonialism. The course is cross-cultural and includes both fictional and autobiographical texts.
