INDOL1003 Introduction to Indigenous Studies

This topic will introduce you to Indigenous studies at Federation University and provide a broad overview of historical and contemporary issues, stories and ideas within an Indigenous knowledge centred framework. You will become critically engaged with key themes of Indigenous identity, representation and reconciliation and introduced to: Historical and contemporary constructions of race, the impacts of colonial policies and processeson Indigenous peoples, and contemporary Indigenous issues in Australia; The diversity and complexity of Indigenous cultures and identities, The central role of institutions of power such as government, media and legal systems in Indigenous First Nations experiences; Central principles of social justice, human rights, and contemporary movements toward selfrepresentation,sovereignty; Indigenous led and centred political movements that have shaped Australian politics since colonisation; The shared future directions for Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities and life inAustralia.

Commonwealth supported place (CSP)

A CSP is subsidised by the Australian Government and students pay a contribution amount. Each unit is classified into a band, depending on the study area of the unit (this discipline may be different from the study area of your course).
