EDBED3117 Responding to Challenge: Mental Health, Behaviour and Learning
This course is designed to build on students¿ prior knowledge of diverse learners, mental health and social-emotional wellbeing. Underpinning the course is the concept that at times, a learner¿s behaviour creates a barrier that impacts their ability to participate and engage. The course identifies effective strategies for supporting learners who experience issues such as psycho-social disability (e.g. anxiety and depression), bullying, Oppositional Defiance Disorder, Conduct Disorder and trauma. The course seeks to explore strategies and approaches for supporting learners who have experienced harm, (physical or mental), are at risk of harm, or have caused harm to others. A range of universal, targeted and individual strategies for supporting communication, wellbeing, participation, engagement and achievement will be investigated through a multi-tiered approach to planning for learning. Students will examine relationships between mental health, disability and behaviour to enhance an understanding of the nuances of characteristics, causes and presentation of learning challenges and problematic behaviours. Particular attention will be given to examining legislative requirements, government and community initiatives and whole school approaches.
Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.
The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).
2025 student contribution amount: $578
2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $578
* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.
