BAWRT2003 Advanced Writing Modes and Genres
This course is designed as an intermediate-level study of the theory and practice of writing and provides students with the opportunity to consolidate, apply, and further develop previously attained skills and critical approaches to creative writing through engaging with more advanced topics selected by the course coordinator. Through close reading of a series of exemplary creative texts and through engagement with relevant critical readings and their own research, students will consider the critical and theoretical aspects of various writing techniques, styles, modes and genres as a means of advancing and better understanding their own writing practice throughout the course The course topics may consider the nature of certain literary forms and the cross-pollination between and amongst genres; students might study a range of writing styles, genres, and conventions, or the course may focus on one genre in particular. Students will be encouraged to critically evaluate the cultural and creative apparatuses of creative writing production in relation to mode and/or genre, and professional practice, and they will have the opportunity to acquire advanced skills for publication of creative work. This is an intermediate-level workshop course where students will be required to demonstrate a high level of workshopping and peer-review skills.
Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.
The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).
2025 student contribution amount: $1,164
2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $997
* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.
