BAIND1002 Introduction to First Nations People of Australia
This unit invites students to explore an Indigenous discovery into Country, Community and Connectedness. The unit is grounded in Indigenous Knowledges and recognises the Indigenous Country, Elders, Ancestors and Dreaming who inform our learning on Country. The unit brings students into an everywhen of belonging and asks for Dadirri (deep listening) and the practice of Kanyini (to live from the heart and in love) as we remember the everywhen that is an Australian Indigenous world. Rather than working through linear weeks, our unit embraces nodes and connections, visiting interconnected Country informed by Dreaming, Dadirri, Language and Lore. Students will explore inspirational literacies to make meaning while yarning on Country and sharing art and creation with community. By the time students share artworks with community we will have developed an introductory interconnected understanding of Indigenous Knowledges, supporting all enrolled to feel Country in a way that allows an openness and an appreciation for Indigenous ways. This unit will bring participants back into Dreaming; when studying other Indigenous Studies Units; lessons will continue to evolve, and connections will further be made through this experience.
