ACAPP2004 Applied Creative Arts Performance Practice 4
This intermediate course builds on the foundational skills achieved throughout the first year and/or semester one Performance Practice and/or Performance Voice by focussing on theatre and performance for personal empowerment and social change. Special focus will be given to how socially engaged art can be effectively applied across communities and cultures. Students will consider acting and theatre and performance practice as an art form, and as form of activism and cultural leadership. They will be introduced to a range of theatre practices in this area including playback theatre, pop up theatre, process drama and theatre and performance for diverse audiences. Philosophy and methods developed through the work of Augusto Boal and `Theatre of the Oppressed¿ will be investigated. Students will create, participate in and lead workshops based on the major forms of the Theatre of the Oppressed, including Image Theatre, Forum Theatre, and Rainbow of Desire. Through a combination of practical and theoretical investigations students will develop their proficiency in directing, devising theatre, and will investigate how this can be applied to community development, personal empowerment and for social change and research.
Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) unit fee
A Commonwealth Supported Place (CSP) is one that is subsidised by the Australian Government, which means students only pay the student contribution amount of the tuition fee. CSPs are only available to eligible domestic students.
The student contribution amount depends on the unit and how much funding the Government provides. Each unit is classified into a band based on its discipline (which may be different to your overall course discipline).
2025 student contribution amount: $1,164
2025 grandfathered student contribution amount (for students who commenced before 1 Jan 2021*): $997
* If you are a continuing student (who commenced your course before 1 January 2021) you will continue paying the same amount as you would have, had legislative reforms not been implemented for any units that would otherwise have an increased student contribution amount.
