About the War Widows and Widowed Mothers Association

The War Widows and Widowed Mothers Association (WW&WMA) was founded in Melbourne in 1922. Its original aim was to improve the conditions of bereaved widows following the end of World War I.

The WW&WMA scholarship fund was established as the result of many years of dedicated service by the WW&WMA to better the welfare, benefits and support for its members, which now includes all widows and widowed mothers of Service members. The aim of the scholarship fund is to encourage community spirit and service.

The WW&WMA initially entered into a Trust Deed with the Victorian Veterans Council (VVC), on 16 December 2004, to provide funding for annual scholarships co-ordinated by the University of Ballarat (now Federation University Australia). The VVC is supported by officers in the Office for Veterans in the Victorian Department of Families, Fairness and Housing.
