Support for care experienced students

Have you spent time in out-of-home care, including foster, kinship, residential or permanent care? Take a look at the dedicated services on offer.

Federation is home to a growing number of students with care experience. We know uni can come with extra hurdles, so we’re working to break them down and make support easy to find – and even easier to access. Support is available to all care experienced students, no matter your age.

Applying to Federation

If you’ve experienced out-of-home care and are applying to Federation, you may be eligible for equity schemes (SEAS). It can increase your selection rank without changing your ATAR or negatively affecting your application – so it’s worth applying even if you’re unsure.

Peer mentoring programs

Federation University is part of the Raising Expectations program, supporting care-experienced students at uni and TAFE across Victoria. Thanks to this program, we can offer free online peer mentoring to connect with fellow care-experienced students and graduates. Get matched with a mentor to build study skills, set goals and access further support.
