Find a place to live
Choosing where to live is a big step, especially if you're moving away from home for the first time. Find student accommodation and rental options near campus.
Student accommodation on campus
Living on residence (res) is convenient. You don’t have to buy furniture or white goods. Your utilities and internet bills are included. And your commute to class is negligible – so you get to sleep in every day.
Another bonus – Mt Helen res students get a free Health, Sports and Aquatic Centre membership, which means access to the fully equipped gym and heated indoor pool.
Rent off-campus
Renting one room in a house means sharing common spaces like the kitchen, bathroom and living area. You can apply with friends or find an existing share house.
Find rooms to rent on the International Students Facebook page, Flatmates.com.au, Gumtree and local Facebook groups. Make sure the person renting the room has permission from their landlord and that you have a written agreement stating the amount of rent and minimum length of stay.
You can rent an apartment, townhouse or house on your own for more privacy, but it’s usually more expensive than sharing. Make sure you have somewhere to stay while you search.
Properties for rent are listed on realestate.com.au and domain.com.au. It’s best to book an inspection before applying and introducing yourself to local agents can help.
