What is the Connect Crew?

ConnectU is Federation's student mentoring program. It connects new students with experienced students who can share advice, answer questions and help them settle into life at Fed.


ConnectU mentors, known as the Connect Crew, support up to four new students through our online communities platform. Along the way, mentors develop valuable leadership, communication and mentoring skills.


Current TAFE and higher education students are encouraged to apply. No previous mentoring experience is required.

The program is designed to fit around your studies, with a commitment of around one hour per week for 10 weeks.

After you sign up

Once matched, you'll connect with your mentees through our online communities platform and help them discover the services, opportunities and support available at Federation.

When will you be needed?

The timing varies depending on your course.

Early Semester 1 Nursing students

  • Complete mentor training, induction and student matching from mid-December to early January.
  • Begin welcoming and supporting mentees in the week leading up to Orientation (18 to 22 January).
  • Attend the end-of-program celebration event in early March.

TAFE and all other university students

  • Complete mentor training, induction and student matching from late January to early February.
  • Begin welcoming and supporting mentees from mid-February leading up to Orientation (22 to 26 February).
  • Attend the end-of-program celebration event in mid-April.

After Orientation, you'll stay connected with your mentees for six weeks. This usually involves around one hour per week.

Rewards and recognition

You'll receive a Federation University merch pack valued at over $100, earn rewards throughout the program, and choose either a $200 Prezzee Voucher or $200 Study Success Grant when you successfully complete the program.
