About the game
You’ll join 'The Resistance' and take on six different missions to win giveaways and merchandise. Each mission will be a new episode where you'll interact with characters, solve challenges and uncover the stories behind each case. Along the way, you’ll discover the facts behind vaping and it's health risks. Here's what you'll do:

Plot
Your mission starts in Wimbergip. You’re recruited into The Resistance, sent undercover as a Charity Koala volunteer with one job: find Nic.
Who's Nic? Nic is a 22-year-old Environmental Science student who’s been trying to work out why he’s feeling off. Seed oils? Processed food? He’s got his theories.
Time to investigate. Follow the clues. Meet the locals. Uncover the truth. Can you help Nic and crack the case?
Top tip: Whatever you do, don’t underestimate the bin chicken.
Health messaging
Nicotine does not simply disappear between vaping sessions. The body clears it gradually, so repeated vaping throughout the day leads to increasing nicotine exposure.
The mission uses a simple calculation to show how nicotine can accumulate and challenges the tendency to explain symptoms away as something unrelated.
Plot
Your mission takes you to the industrial town of Moorlock. This time, you’re undercover as a CFA fire inspector investigating a fire-risk alert.
Your target is Jess, a 19-year-old TAFE graduate working for ClearSky Vapour. But something isn’t adding up. The company is a Syndicate front, importing illegal disposable vapes and giving them polished Australian-style branding.
Gather information from the locals. Get past manager Kev. Find Jess and uncover what she’s really handling. Can you uncover the danger before it’s too late?
Top tip: Move fast. The mission ends with a race against the clock.
Health messaging
Poor-quality or non-compliant lithium-ion batteries can create serious fire and explosion risks. Damage, overheating, impact or overcharging can cause thermal runaway, where a battery rapidly overheats and may ignite or explode.
Australian-looking packaging or branding does not mean a vape has been tested or meets Australian product safety standards.
Plot
Your next mission starts at Cloud Nine, a nightclub with a secret hiding above the tobacconist stockroom.
Your target is Rami, a 20-year-old bartender handing out free vapes as “sponsored party favours”. But there’s a familiar face in the crowd. Nic is back — and this time, he’s working for the Syndicate as a “wellness ambassador”. Can you uncover the truth behind the perfect party favour?
Follow the clues. Work out what’s really being handed out. Find out what Nic has got himself into.

Health messaging
Vape aerosol is not simply flavoured water vapour. Vape liquids contain nicotine, propylene glycol, vegetable glycerin, flavourings and other chemicals. Heating these substances produce harmful compounds, while metals from the device can also enter the aerosol.
The mission challenges the idea that something is harmless simply because it smells or tastes pleasant.
Plot
Your mission takes you to Karralong, where something about the local waste figures doesn’t add up.
Posing as an EPA compliance auditor, you team up with council waste officer Tess Ngata to investigate the numbers. The trail leads to CloudCycle, the Syndicate’s carefully branded vape recycling program. It looks like a solution to vape waste. But behind the green messaging, something else is happening. Can you follow the trail before the evidence disappears?

Top tip: Keep Tess close. She knows where the rubbish is buried.
Health messaging
Discarded vapes can create environmental and safety risks. Vapes contain batteries, plastics, nicotine residues and electronic components that should not be dumped in general waste or the environment. Damaged lithium batteries can also create fire risks.
Nicotine residue can be toxic to animals if cartridges or pods are chewed or swallowed.
Plot
Your next mission starts at Pure Horizon, a luxury wellness retreat promising to transform lives through “cloud cleanse” vaping.
Find Mina and uncover what Pure Horizon is really putting into the air. The retreat is run by Dale Chambers. Although you’ll never actually meet him, his portrait is everywhere. Can you expose the truth behind the ultimate wellness experience?
Investigate the retreat. Test the air. Solve the ventilation puzzles.
Top tip: Follow the strange smells. They'll lead you somewhere.
Health messaging
Second-hand vape aerosol can expose other people to nicotine and other substances contained in the aerosol. Particles and chemical residues can also remain in indoor environments and settle on surfaces after vaping has occurred.
The mission challenges the idea that wellness branding changes the underlying risks of vaping.
The final mystery is taking shape. Watch this space.

Our inspiration
Young Australians aged 18 to 24 have the highest rate of vaping among all adult age groups. That’s why we’ve developed Cloud Control, a program that uses gamification, storytelling and interactive challenges to engage young adults. It explores the health and financial impacts of vaping, as well as the commercial interests behind the vaping industry. Cloud Control is funded by VicHealth and is the result of a collaboration between our student wellbeing and IT teams.
