Openness in animal research and teaching

Find out how Federation staff and research students comply with the set regulations when using animals for scientific purposes.

We believe in being open about how animals are used in our research and teaching. That’s why Federation University is proud to be a signatory to the Openness Agreement on Animal Research and Teaching in Australia, launched in 2023 by the Australian and New Zealand Council for the Care of Animals in Research and Teaching (ANZCCART).

The agreement is a voluntary pledge for organisations that want to be upfront about their scientific animal use. By signing, we’re building on our long-standing commitment to animal welfare and making sure the public understands how and why these practices take place.
