Request or borrow items we don't have

Find out how to ask for and borrow items from other academic libraries.

Can’t find what you need in the Federation Library? If you’re a current Federation student or staff member, you can borrow books when you visit other academic libraries. If you're eligible you can also ask us to source books and other resources from libraries across Australia or overseas, and we’ll deliver them to the library or straight to you.

Borrow from other academic libraries

Reciprocal programs allow Federation students and staff to borrow from other academic libraries when you visit. These include:

To register, show your Federation University staff or student ID card and proof of current enrolment or employment at any participating library.

If you borrow items from another institution's library and don't return them on time, your borrowing rights at Federation Library could be affected.

Request items we don't have

If you can’t find what you need in our collection or by visiting another academic library, we can help locate and source books, articles and other resources from academic libraries across Australia and overseas. Federation staff, PhD and Masters students can make unlimited requests, and Honours, graduate diploma or graduate certificate students can make up to 12 requests per year.

To submit a request:

  • log in to your MyLibrary account using your student or staff number and password and click 'New request' under Research Sharing Services
  • search Library QuickSearch and click 'No full-text' on the required resource. Request the resource via 'Direct form'
Books in print can be borrowed. Copies of articles or chapters are supplied in line with copyright provisions.

Suggest an item for purchase

If you teach at Federation, you can suggest books, journals, databases and other materials that support the University's teaching, learning and research activities by emailing acquisitions@federation.edu.au. We prefer to order digital resources if possible so we can provide 24/7 access on and off campus to multiple simultaneous users and integrate resources into online course platforms.

Do you work at another library?

We can supply copies or loans of most items in our collections to other libraries via Libraries Australia. Find more about our service via the ILRS directory. We also accept requests via email if they comply with the Copyright Act 1968, and we accept payment via invoice or IFLA voucher. Email docdel@federation.edu.au or call +61 3 5327 9597 for more information.
