Apply as an international student under 18 years old
You can come to Australia to study at Federation University if you’re under 18, but only if you follow the Australian immigration regulations.
If you plan to move to Australia to study before you turn 18, you must have appropriate welfare and accommodation arrangements in place so you can get a student visa.
You can either:
- arrange Federation University accommodation and welfare using our approved services below; or
- nominate a guardian by completing the student guardianship arrangements form (PDF, 290KB) and attaching it to your student visa application.
You must meet the welfare requirements until you turn 18 and be at least 17 years old when you start your studies with us.
Federation University-approved accommodation and welfare arrangements
The Australian Homestay Network (AHN) has been providing international students with a high standard of homestay accommodation since 2008. Living with local hosts means you’ll settle in fast and learn lots about Australian culture and lifestyle. Fees include meals, utilities and internet access, as well as 24/7 support, local orientation and homestay insurance.

The International Student Alliance (ISA) has been supporting international students since 1998. ISA staff can help you understand visa regulations, safety information, banking, public transport, academic results, medical appointments and more. They will also meet with you regularly and give your parents updates in their native language.
