Federation TAFE in correctional facilities

Federation TAFE is contracted to deliver courses in a number of Victorian prisons and post‑sentence facilities.

We believe that everyone should have access to quality education. Training opportunities are especially important for those in correctional settings, because structured learning not only strengthens self‑efficacy, wellbeing and employment prospects, it also helps reduce the risk of reoffending.

Federation University is contracted by Corrections Victoria to deliver VET programs in correctional facilities across the state, including:

  • Hopkins Correctional Centre
  • Langi Kal Kal Prison
  • Barwon Prison
  • Marngoneet Correctional Centre
  • Karreenga Annexe
  • Western Plains Correctional Centre
  • Rivergum and Corella Place (post‑sentence facilities).

TAFE courses on offer

The courses we run are designed to support inmates' successful reintegration into the community. Prisoners get the chance to build their literacy, numeracy and vocational skills, all of which help to prepare them for life after release.

Options include:

  • short courses (which can be tailored to suit particular cohorts)
  • Certificates in General Education for Adults
  • Certificates in Spoken and Written English
  • Certificates in Vocational Preparation
  • VET certificates aligned with employment pathways such as construction, furniture making, warehousing and horticulture.
