First Nations Voice to Parliament
Federation University is strongly committed to the Uluru Statement from the Heart and publicly supported the YES campaign for the Voice to Parliament.
What is the Uluru Statement from the Heart?
The Uluru Statement from the Heart is an invitation for all Australians to work together on Voice, Treaty and Truth. It was created in 2017 at the First Nations Constitutional Convention at Uluru, after 13 community discussions were held across the country with hundreds of First Nations delegates. Federation University endorsed the Uluru Statement in 2023 as an important step in our reconciliation journey.
What was the Voice to Parliament?
In October 2023, Australians voted in a referendum on whether to change the Constitution to recognise First Nations peoples by establishing a Voice to Parliament. The Voice would have provided advice to parliament and the government on matters affecting First Nations communities. The proposal did not pass. Federation University supported the YES campaign and took part in the dialogue leading up to the vote as part of our commitment to reconciliation.
