Statement on threats and intimidation at Ballarat Muslim community event
Federation University acknowledges the deeply distressing attack on Ballarat’s local Muslim community, including a number of our staff and students.
It is especially distressing that this attack took place during Ramadan, a holy month devoted to reflection, community and generosity – values that stand in stark contrast to this act of hate and intimidation.
Racism and hatred have no place in our community.
Federation University stands unequivocally with those impacted and firmly against racism, discrimination and religious hatred in all its forms.
Our values are clear: everyone deserves to feel safe, respected and welcomed.
We recognise that incidents like this can have far‑reaching impacts, not only on those directly involved, but on whole families and communities.
In the coming days, we will continue to stand with affected staff and students – and with our local Muslim community.
We also stand with the broader Ballarat community in reaffirming that racism and intimidation have no place in our region.
Federation University remains committed to fostering safe, inclusive and welcoming communities – and to speaking out against hate wherever it occurs.
