Researchers aim to unlock marathon success with pacing and shoe studies
Federation University sport scientists are conducting tests to find athlete performance gains before the Ballarat Marathon.
This testing includes looking at what gains can be made by wearing specific shoes, with scientists measuring the oxygen level of an athlete running at a specific pace to work out the energy used.
Federation has also partnered with Ulster University on a project to learn more about pacing – exploring what makes a more successful marathon performance in terms of how athletes dose their efforts and experience the often-gruelling 42km event.
Federation University is a partner of the Ballarat Marathon, which will be run on April 26 and 27.
