Federation University statement on student visa policies and admissions procedures

28 April 2025

Federation University Australia is aware of recent media reports regarding alleged changes to Australia’s student visa policies, specifically those claiming the imposition of a ban on student visa approvals for certain international students. We want to clarify that these claims are inaccurate and stem from outdated information.

While there was a temporary pause on enrolments from 5 Indian states in May 2023, this was reviewed and adjusted, with enrolments recommencing on 18 September 2023. As of 23 April 2025, Federation University understands there has been no recent policy shift regarding the rejection of applications from specific regions in India, nor a ban on student visas for international students, as suggested by some reports.

Federation University remains committed to providing high-quality education to students from around the world, including India, and continues to collaborate closely with the Australian Government to ensure that our international student community receives adequate support.

We value our international students, who play a vital role in enhancing the academic and cultural experience at Federation University. We are dedicated to assisting students in their decision to study with Federation, and we encourage prospective students to consult official government sources, such as the Department of Home Affairs, for up-to-date and accurate visa information.

Like all universities, Federation University continually responds to emerging trends in the international education landscape. We regularly review and update our admission processes to ensure they remain rigorous and aligned with government requirements. Due to the nature of our systems and privacy obligations, we are not able to retrospectively isolate or report on student enrolments by individual Indian states.

Federation University takes the integrity of its admissions process very seriously. We have robust procedures in place to identify and respond to fraudulent documentation, and we work closely with regulatory bodies and education partners to strengthen these systems. As with all higher education institutions, we are continually improving our practices to address new challenges and uphold the highest standards of compliance and academic integrity.
