Student information

The Aboriginal Education Centre provides support to prospective and current Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. We have a range of support for students at Mt Helen, SMB, Horsham, Berwick and Gippsland campuses.

Students are able to receive a broad range of educational and community support at all campuses of FedUni. As well as providing referral to services and support within the University, our staff are available to provide personalised support.

Learning and study

You can Meet with a learning skills advisor to help you with your study, or access our after hours tutoring service.

Become a mentor

The Australian Indigenous Mentoring Experience (AIME) is a dynamic educational program that is proven to support Indigenous students through high school and into university, employment or further education. AIME gives you the skills, opportunities, belief and confidence to grow and succeed. The program operates from Mt Helen and Gippsland campuses. Contact us or visit the AIME website for more details.

Information and support

AEC staff can also provide information and support on:

  • Access to tutorial support
  • Career advice
  • Referral to childcare, accommodation, counselling, financial, transport and other services.

In addition, on each campus the Centre can facilitate:

  • Access to a computer lounge
  • Access to a resource library
  • Involvement with the local Aboriginal community
  • Referral to community organisations.

Mt Helen resource library

We have a large range of Indigenous-focused books including native title, archaeology, law, art, education, cultural heritage and land management. These books cannot be borrowed but can be used while you are in the Centre. View the full list of books in the collection.

Scholarships

Internal

As an Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander you are able to apply for all scholarships on offer at Federation University Australia. Scholarships labelled 'Indigenous' can only be awarded to successful Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

External

We encourage Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students to apply for external scholarships (in addition to internal scholarships) Our liaison officers are happy to assist you with your application/s.

You will be required to supply a Confirmation of Aboriginality or a statutory declaration to assist in proof of identity. This is standard practice in Victoria.
